What are HVAC Chillers?

Air conditioning is an integral part of every commercial, residential and industrial set up. For smaller structures, separate AC units are required, but, a centralized air-conditioning system is crucial for larger one. In such centralized systems, giant AC units – chillers – are used to provide the cooling for industrial and commercial applications. With the increase in large structures and industries, there’s a need to make every product cost-effective; hence, chiller operation and maintenance in India have become extremely important.

How do HVAC chillers work?

HVAC chillers usually generate chilled water to provide air conditioning in large industries with centralized cooling system. These structures generate a lot of unwanted heat, from both solar heat gain and from the electrical equipment in use. To remove that heat and help everyone live in a comfortable temperature, chillers work in such a way that they ensure proper maintenance of the equipment.

Chillers are either located in the basement or on the roof of industries. Ones on the roof are generally air cooled, while the basement chillers are generally water cooled. That is, they use cooling towers or condenser (like in normal AC units) to disperse the unwanted heat into the atmosphere and comfort workers.

Air compressor operation in India has been gaining ground, lately, due to the excessive rise in temperature and growing discomfort with the heat. Chillers use a refrigerant gas that moves the heat between the evaporator and condenser. The evaporator generates chilled water, which is sent around the industrial structures by a pump to collect the heat and bring it back to the evaporator to be cooled down. The refrigerant collects this cooled-down heat, moving it to the condenser. Now, the condenser puts it into another loop, and sends it to the cooling towers, and into the atmosphere.

HVAC chillers include microprocessor controls and integral pumps that improve the overall chiller performance by improving its integral pumping capacity with precise programming.
